Description from Heritage Auctions: The Great Mouse Detective Background Concept Painting by James Coleman (Walt Disney, 1986). Ratigan, the ginormous sewer rat, commands an army of cutthroats and thugs. They plan to kidnap Queen Victoria (of the mice) on the eve of her Diamond Jubilee, replace her with a cunningly made automaton and usurp the throne. Presented is a fantastic background concept painting showing the celebration. The painting is by James Coleman. Coleman was a Disney background painter who rose to become head of the background department at Walt Disney Feature Animation and color stylist on this film. The piece was rendered in gouache on 10" x 7.25" illustration board. The piece is signed by Coleman in the lower right and exhibits some light wear from production use. Condition is Very Good.
