Olivia's father, the techno-savvy toy maker, is a timid mouse voiced with a Scottish accent by Alan Young (best known as the voice of Scrooge McDuck). Flaversham is a gentle soul who only wants to do good in the world, and by doing so has chosen the profession of creating wonderful toys. The profession, however, proves his skills are worthy enough to create devices other than mere knick-knacks, and this gets Professor Ratigan's attention right away. Naturally, Flaversham wants nothing to do with his villainous scheme, but threats against his daughter leave him no other alternative. Despite being a minor character, the team at Disney developed his role as a loving and caring father figure.

Two scenes that are perhaps the hardest and most emotional to watch with Flaversham are the kidnapping at the start of the film and Olivia briefly reunited with him. Many viewers are still affected by these scenes to this day. The animation and voice acting are a combined dramatic masterpiece.
