{ Characters: Professor Ratigan }

Professor Ratigan--a scheming, coniving and rather evil rat--is London's most feared criminal mastermind. A large, somewhat overpowering figure, Professor Ratigan refers to himself as a mouse rather than a rat, ridding anyone who calls him otherwise. For years, he manages to evade police and capture by his arch-enemy, Basil of Baker Street. In what would prove his downfall, he makes a diabolical scheme to overtake the thrown of England but is tracked down by Basil. The chase eventually ends atop Big Ben where, as he attempts to murder Basil, Professor Ratigan falls to his death.

A dominating presence, Professor Ratigan can be either charming or frightening, depending upon your personal taste. He enjoys his beloved cat, Felicia, and being gloated upon by his many thugs who carry out his crimes.

Memorable Quotes:

  • "You know what happens when someone upsets me..."

  • "You don't know what a delightful dilemma it was, trying to decide on the most appropiate method for your demise. Oh, I had so many ingenious ideas I didn't know which to choose. So I decided to use them all. Marvellous, isn't it?! But, here, let me show you how it works. Picture this: first, a sprightly tune I've recorded especially for you. As the song plays, the cord tightens, and when the song ends, the metal ball is released, rolling along its merry way until... Snap! Boom! Twang! Dunk! SPLAT! And so ends the short, undistinguished career of Basil of Baker Street."

  • "Oh, this is wicked. So delightfully wicked."

  • "Now, you will remember to smile for the camera, won't you? Say, 'Cheese'."

  • "I have the power! I am supreme! This is my kingdom!" [maniacal laugh] "That is, of course, with your highness' permission."

  • "There's no escaping this time, Basil!"
